Today was my first day at work. I was to report there by 9.30am. Surprisingly, I wasn't late! In fact, I was 15 mins early!
Not long after 'registering' my name, I waited for further instructions. Then, a guy entered...
And Another guy...
And ANOTHER guy...
And MORE guys!
I panicked. These people are my colleages! I didn't know I was gonna work in a freaking MALE environment!
The worst part is that the new comers (like me) are all guys too. Gosh...
Thank goodness some girls entered the place as well. However, they weren't new comers. But I'm consoled that I won't be the only pathetic girl around.
Once I was able to enter the next room, there was A LOT of people. It was like one of those orientation complete with cheers and groups. My assigned leader is known as Kai En.
There were about three groups in there, and another two groups in the 'X-cel' team. I was in the 'Dynamic' team, under JAD.
Woot! JAD rocks!
There was this whole cheering session, and then the 'newbies' were introduced. (Here's the funny part: I was carrying a bag with the print 'newbie')
Soon after, I left with Kai En and some other colleages to Waterloo to do our 'buisness'. (That's sounds funny. Waterloo to do buisness :P)
In the waiting room, the leaders taught us how to 'pitch' people. This means that we have to interact with these 'clients', a.k.a passer-bys, to let them know about the charity we're helping.
At first I was a little nervous, but I wasn't thinking much. My mind was still switched off. So I just approached someone and did the talking/pitching thing.
After a number of tries, I got the hang of it. Then, my mind just focused on this job and kept on asking people. It was non-stop. I couldn't even remember excatly what I did.
It's like, you have to repeat the same thing over and over again in this short period of time, you mouth and brain somehow got accustomed to it. Every passer-bys I approached, I automatically went:
Hi Sir/Mdm. Could I just have your attention for awhile? I'm a representative from We-sharecare Soceity, and basically we are helping poor Singapore children who come from broken family or single parent family. We are trying to help more than 200 children and every $10 card that you buy would help them a lot. Your money...
That was an example on what I had to say again and again and again.
I've also learnt something from this expirence. Don't take a break while you're going on and on and on. You'll lose the momemtem.
That was what happened to me. After lunch, I felt even MORE tired. I have no idea why... The more breaks I took, the more tired I felt. And I took about 2 to 3 breaks, excluding lunch.
Maybe it's because you'll realise how much your feet and mind are aching that you feel even more tired...
For my first day, I sold 20 cards. Kai En said that it was very good for my first day :D
Hopefully, I can do about 25 cards tomorrow!
